How much alcohol is in a margarita?ĭepending on the recipe you follow, a margarita can vary in alcohol content. From here, tequila can also be aged in oak barrels for at least 60 days, which creates a deeper colour and a richer flavour profile. It’s then distilled, which creates a clear liquid called tequila blanco. The leaves are removed from the plant and the core, which is called piña, is cooked, mashed and fermented to create alcohol. The main alcohol in margaritas is tequila, but where does it come from? Tequila is actually made from blue agave plants, which is native to Mexico. Cointreau also has a higher alcohol content, yet has a smoother finish than Triple Sec.
